The NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center is the Host sponsor for the “Women in Trades Career Fair”. The fair is the fruit of a concept that now has achieved 21 years running, growing larger every year.

Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc. is the guiding force behind the fair, working with local construction companies, transportation departments, utilities and most important, apprenticeship programs, offering women of all ages a look into the world of construction, while getting their hands dirty trying out whatever strikes their interest. The fair has been located at the NIETC for a majority of the 21 years, utilizing the many classrooms and parking lot as the scene of an impromptu construction site, offering women an opportunity to wire a light and switch, bend some conduit, build a “solar project” or assemble a “wind turbine”. In addition to electrical, most every other construction trade is represented.

Women In Trades Fair at NIETC

The fair is broken into three days of events, with middle school girls attending on a Thursday ( nearly 590 in 2010), High school girls on Friday (639 ) and the general public on Saturday (over 540 registered for 2010).

Since it’s inception in 1993, the fair has been providing women a dynamic three day event introducing girls into the high paying jobs in the building, construction, mechanical, technical and utility trades.

Look for details as the fair again will be hosted by the NIETC on May 8, 9, and 10 of 2014. Hope to see you there.
