Building Information Modeling (BIM) Education at the Training Center

The Training Center is currently offering several classes to help prepare our members for the technology changes that are occurring in our industry.  We are currently offering classes in Autodesk Navis and Autodesk Revit. We plan to have classes available in Bluebeam by the fall.

In Introduction to BIM/Navisworks students learn about the BIM process and are introduced to Autodesk Navisworks to learn how to “fly” the model. Students get hands on experience in:

  • Moving through BIM model
  • Measuring equipment
  • Locating equipment by using the model and traditional two-dimensional prints
  • Project set-up for efficient workflow
  • Clash Detection
  • Timeliner

In Introduction to 3D Modeling 1 students will be introduced the 3D modeling software Autodesk Revit.  Students will spend the day designing a house to understand the most common commands used in Revit and how Revit tracks data and information.  This class will be a prerequisite to Introduction the 3D Modeling 2.

In Introduction to 3D Modeling 2 students learn about the 3D modeling process so that they can better understand the BIM workflow.  Students will use Autodesk Revit to:

  • Learn how to set electrical equipment and run raceways
  • Learn to create a conduit schedule for estimation purposes
  • Set hangers and trapezes utilizing Dewalt Hangerworks
  • Create a functional electrical system from a one-line diagram and floor plan
  • Export model into Navisworks and run clash detection
  • Correct clashes
Available this fall we will be offering classes in Bluebeam.  The tentative outline for this class is:

  • Basics of Bluebeam:  Learn how to use Bluebeam to create, organize, markup, and create comments in the drawing set
  • Document Control:  Learn how to navigate and manage changes within the drawing set
  • Takeoffs/Estimation:  How to efficiently perform job take-offs and produce basic estimates
  • Project close out/punch-list:  Learn to streamline punch-lists and reports to communicate punch-list status with the project team
Staying on the cutting edge of technology will be critical to the success of our contractors and workers in the future. The Training Center is committed to bringing our members the latest technology.
